James Clear’s take on “mental toughness” is simple.
You are tough when your mood is not dependent on your conditions.
Stressful day at work but you can chill after? Tough.
Hard talk with a family member but feel at peace about speaking your mind? Tough.
Massive challenge in front of you that you’re not sure if you can handle, BUT you’re going to take it on anyway because you can’t imagine not trying? Tough.
As Clear says, we often portray mental toughness as determination and persistence. But mental toughness is just as much flexibility and adaptability.
Tough is rolling with it, and being happy or at peace or just plain confident anywhere, anytime, with anyone.
