Podcast of the Week: Prepare the Kids for the Road, Not the Road for the Kids

Jonathan Haidt has co-authored a new book, The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions And Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure. The first interview I found covering the subject was with Jordan Harbinger and it’s excellent. Haidt curates several changes within our culture, much of which surround how social media etiquette guides people into filter bubbles with no clear or constructive path back out. This becomes especially problematic when we apply the reality to kids raised on social media.

Haidt asks what we should do when we realize we’ve been preparing the road for the child and not the child for the road. This is not cranky old-person lecturing, this is thoughtful analysis from an expert on the psychology of morality. This is required listening for any parent, and highly encouraged for anyone else who is struggling to make sense of our social media connected world.
