Sunday Music: All Night And Day, I Cry And Pray (Lianne La Havas)

Lianne La Havas is a new find for me. The song “Seven Times” is a vibe. It’s got a Latin/Brazilian feel over trip-hop drums, her soft-delivered but still so emotive vocals, and there’s even a flute solo at the end (for good measure I guess? It’s perfect) – it all scratches an itch I didn’t even know I needed to scratch. Lyrically it’s a breakup song, but it’s pinpointing the feeling after she’s accepted the bad and has committed to her own healing (hence, “all night and day, I cry and pray”). She says Blu Cantrell because of the lyrics I think, but I hear more D’Angelo and late 90s neo-soul going on here too. Check it out. I definitely need to dig more into this record.
