Sunday Music: “And It Might Not Be Such A Bad Idea If I Never Went Home Again” – YBN Cordae and Chance the Rapper

YBN Cordae and Chance the Rapper have linked up for “Bad Idea” on the former’s official debut, due out in July 2019. I’m a sucker for the Donny Hathaway piano line from “Be Real Black for Me.” Sample or use a variation on that, and I can’t not listen. Add in two talented writers exploring “home,” from reminiscing about ramen noodles with hot sauce to why a condo still feels like an apartment, and we get a nostalgic, all too relatable sing-a-long.

My favorite single line is probably Chance’s, “some of these decisions are like sharpie on a dry erase.” And that chorus – it’s in your head after one listen.

We’ve been following YBN Cordrae for a little while now, see also this post.

For the early-2000s version of this song, let’s also not forget Scarface’s “On My Block,” covered here.

And, just because it’s worth we asking, where would we be without Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway?
