A friend (h/t Ryan M) sent this in. I’m automatically cautious about John Prine covers, but it’s in very capable hands here with Bill Callahan and Bonnie “Prince” Billy.
Prine’s songs are always beautiful and interesting because of their imperfections. It takes a special artist to recreate and/or reimagine those imperfections so that they’re not lost.
We get it here in the vocal, the musical arrangement, and the accompanying video. Yes, it’s a love song. But who’s to say the lady of interest can’t be NYC?
When you have the full 5 minutes available, turn the volume on, sit back, and take it all in. It’s perfectly imperfect and I have to think Prine would be damn proud.
