3 Body Problem, 1 TV Solution

cultural, scientific, and relational variables at play, damn near perfectly

3 Body Problem, 1 TV Solution

I love the books, and (so far) I love the TV show. No spoilers here. Just a thought.

The Liu Cixin series remains one of my favorites. It’s also so deep, dense, and just - big - that I couldn’t imagine how they’d bring it to TV.

But, David Benioff, D. B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo got the variables right. At least for the first season.

They’re balancing cultural ideas (in the Chinese Cultural Revolution, the Western notion of heroes, etc.).

They’re balancing scientific ideas (in the questioning of what pushes both inquiry and the funding of projects forward).

They’re balancing relational ideas (in ALL the ways, from friends to physics, and worldviews to world-destruction ethics).

It’s a story about what unites us and what defines us.

It doesn’t ask if it matters, it just asks what we want to do about experiencing any of it.

The meaning that arises from the questioning of what to do next, with the awareness of wondering what they will do next, in the time and space of asking, “For what?”

I’m not spoiling anything, for now, and can’t wait to talk to more people about these stories in years ahead.

Did you watch? Let me know.

Weakness and ignorance are not barriers to survival, but arrogance is.

And,

Without the fear of heights, there can be no appreciation for the beauty of high places.
