3 Ways To Be Boring
yes, now YOU can be boring too!
3 Ways To Be Boring
3 ways to reliably be boring:
State something as a lone fact, without any story or perspective.
State something without any curiosity inducing contrast.
State something without the vulnerability and humility of maybe being wrong.
OK I made this post boring. I’m sorry. Let’s try another way -
Somebody was telling me about a conference and I was half-listening, half multi-tasking by reading what people were going to be talking about via the emailed agenda they’d just sent.
It was financial planning related and being billed as fun and exciting. It was also sheer bulleted boredom in every one of the headlines. I’m making these up so people’s feelings don’t get hurt, but it was stuff like, “The ABCs of Estate Planning,” “What to Ask Your Life Insurance Agent,” and stuff like that.
Yes, I resisted making a “nice bulleted headlines here, but I think I’d prefer a bullet in my…” joke.
But not by much.
This conference/webinar series didn’t look fun. At all. In fact, it looked less fun than getting continuing education, which is the only thing worse than studying for some certificated education in the first place.
And what sucks the most is - it didn’t have to be.
Hence these 3 reminders of how to be boring.
So you can do the opposite.
I didn’t say it to them.
I’m saying this to you (and me). What about:
Aretha, Prince, and Abraham Lincoln died without wills and left their families with messes. Here’s how you can be a little bit smarter in one way than all three of them.
Life Insurance is really death insurance and other life insurance marketing techniques you can use to not get swindled.
The bottom line is - real people go through real stuff every day. Some of it sucks and some of it is amazing. And any of it could help this material.
Don’t just give me a blunt fact.
Don’t just give me a bland statement.
Don’t preach like it isn’t actually complicated, messy, and human.
I’m sure there are more ways to be boring, but I’m really interested in more ways to make things interesting.
Life is pretty great when we make it so.
