A Car Has More Than A Gas Pedal

I spent the end part of last year learning a ton of new systems. I got frustrated – really frustrated – with how slowly everything was going (even when it wasn’t actually going slowly).

Learning new systems is a lot like learning to drive. At first, none of it makes sense. But then, kind of out of nowhere, you know how everything fits together.

Here’s Charlie Munger capturing the sentiment perfectly,

If you’re going to learn to drive a car, it doesn’t do any good just to know how to use the accelerator. There are four or five things you have to know before you understand the system correctly.

Systems are complex. It takes time. There’s more than just a gas pedal.

Patience, young one. You’ll get there.
