Comparison Is The Primary Sin Of Modern Life
“Comparison is the primary sin of modern life.” Michael Ray, Stanford Professor*
The surest way to have enough (or not enough) of something is to pick a comparison that proves your point.
I’m broke next to Warren Buffett. He’s (currently) middle class next to Jeff Bezos. I’m rich compared to a bum on the street. The comparison always matters.
It goes way further than money too. We can compare our social media stats, our products, our services… our anythings and everythings.
That’s why it’s important to always ask, “Compared to what?” And, then to follow it up with, “Why?”
The comparison provides the frame. Choose it wisely.
*as told by Jim Collins in his second interview with Tim Ferriss on The Tim Ferris Show Podcast #483.
