Cultish Creative Weekly Recap (10/9/2024)

scratch therapy,

Sean DeLaney and Mark McCartney came to Just Press Record to coach the life out of me in the best of ways. This one will be echoing in my head for a long time. Both of their levels of commitment to understanding what their gut is trying to tell them during pivotal life moments and on a regular Tuesday, I admire it greatly. If you haven’t checked this one out yet, please do:

I know, I know, I’ll get off the horror movies until next year, but this week I wrote about:

How the soundtrack to Scream 2 has some really great stuff (totally in my ‘97 heart and mind too), and

why the Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s sounds are as scary as its visuals (composer/designer Wayne Bell’s dad was a blind musician and shaped his approach, h/t Thomas Hobbs who got an interview with Bell that I loved).

Only slightly removed from horror, Jordan Morris’ graphic novel about church group kids who slay demons made my weekend recently. Also a very ‘97-Matt approved theme. Something must be in the air.

Jack Forehand and I got into some of our favorite Toby Carlisle thoughts on Excess Returns (a lot of timeless wisdom here, including breaking down what an ideal business might even be, why survival is the name of every game, and why you should take notes).
