Do Good Work For Good People (Wendell Berry Wisdom)

My professional mission statement has evolved into this: do good work for good people.

I found a deep connection with this simple idea while listening to Nick Offerman’s chapter on Wendell Berry in the book Gumption. The following is a note I made, which may or may not be a  direct quote I really wanted to share:

Good forms confer good health upon the things that they gather together. Farms, families, and communities are forms of art, just as are poems, paintings, and symphonies. None of these things would exist if we did not make them. We can make them either well or poorly. This choice is another thing we make.

I think this note captures it perfectly. Whatever you’re doing, choose to do it well, for people who appreciate the craft.
