Fabulous Work, For the Customer, On Time, With Quality

Patty McCord has this to say about leaders,

Their only reason to be there is to do fabulous work on behalf of the customer on time with quality.

Let’s break it down real simple:

Fabulous work.

On behalf of the customer.

On-time.

With quality.

A team or organization that gets these things done makes a difference. It’s leadership’s job to set that tone (and leaders aren’t only at the top).

On the flip-side, plenty of us have seen the failure of these principles. Shoddy work, self-serving decisions, arbitrary expectations, and inconsistent effort will rot a team from the inside out.

It sets us all up with a choice: what do we want to be a part of? What do we want to lead? Treat this quote as a cornerstone. One more time.

Their [a leader’s] only reason to be there is to do fabulous work on behalf of the customer on time with quality.

(I got this from McCord’s appearance on  “How To Stand Up To Your Terrible Manager” on the How To! podcast.)
