Fail > Learn > Persist (USMNT’s Matt Turner)

The first time any national media outlet ever talked about current USMNT goalie Matt Turner, they reported this:

NCAA goalkeeper commits an all-time great howler

I hope everyone this guy knows gives him a hug every day for the rest of his life.

Matt Turner is a goalkeeper for Fairfield, who plays in the MAAC in Division I men’s college soccer. He had a really, really tough Wednesday. With his team leading 1-0, he made one of the most painful goalkeeping errors you’re likely to see in your lifetime. Iona went on to beat Fairfield, 2-1.

It’s a long, and worthwhile walk, from moments like this to playing for the National Team. Good job Matt, good job.

Here’s what SB Nation said about Turner last month

The race for the No. 1 goalkeeper job within the U.S. men’s national team program continues to be one of the major decisions for head coach Gregg Berhalter, but after making his first international appearance since February, Matt Turner looks ready for the challenge ahead of a big summer in his career.

Rog Bennett (Men In Blazers) shared an insightful interview with Matt Turner on this moment and his career so far. Listen to “American States United with Matt Turner.”

And just have a look… from this, to that (!!!):
