Fireworks, Dogs, and Taking Care of Your People
One of my dogs is scared of fireworks.
Not a little scared, like, really scared. Terrified.
Hide in the bathroom in a thunder-shirt (it’s a thing) with her tail between her legs scared.
Let this be a holiday reminder that one man’s fireworks are another dogs panic attack.*
*Yes, that is a metaphor.**
**Yes, it applies well to corporate life, where displays (or celebrations) of authority can unnerve people who don’t feel like they have similar authority in the organization. When someone is setting off fireworks, someone else is calming the dogs.***
***Hypothetically, there is a responsible way to set off fireworks, but that’s the limit of the metaphor, OK?
