I’m Too Busy

I’m in a “I’ve got way too much going on right now” phase of life (on purpose, and for good reasons) that I’m looking forward to winding back a little next year so I have some peace. 

Debbie Millman, graphic design* and writing and podcasting legend has one of my favorite quotes about busyness. 

It’s a favorite because it still acknowledges you have work to do, but leaves you holding the hulking responsibility of prioritizing the space you need too. Emphasis added:

Busy is a decision. We do the things we want to do, period. If we say we are too busy, it is just shorthand for the thing being “not important enough” or “not a priority.” Busy is not a badge. You don’t find the time to make things, you make the time to do things.
