It Takes Vision

Vision is one of those things that feels really, really hard to set for ourselves let alone for our teams and organizations. They often end up sounding corny or campy or like something “those other people” would do. Ick.

But, vision is necessary. So necessary. If we don’t look at where we’re going, well, as the Cheshire Cat says, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there.”

So that’s why you need a vision. To put the there in there.

If that vision needs to be shared with others, Jim Collins has the two basic ingredients to make sure its effective. He says, “To be effective a vision must be clear and shared.”

Figure out where you want this project, this company, hell – this afternoon – to go. Be specific. Share it with the others. That’s how you have true vision. It’s so necessary.
