Jimmy Stewart’s Ode To His Dog

I get it. If you don’t want to have a cry to start your week, just skip this email.

But if you have a dog, or lost one, or are scared to lose one – you know how important those four-legged friends are.

I found this clip of Jimmy Stewart reading a poem (he wrote) to Johnny Carson about his dog. The poem didn’t win a Pulitzer, but it captures all of the feels and rhymes.

Plus, Jimmy Stewart reads it, so you get that factor too.

Here’s a snippet that particularly grabs me, a link to the full poem, and then please, have some tissues handy and then press play on the video below.

And there were nights when I’d feel himClimb upon our bedAnd lie between us,And I’d pat his head.

And there were nights when I’d feel this stareAnd I’d wake up and he’d be sitting thereAnd I reach out my hand and stroke his hair. And sometimes I’d feel him sighand I think I know the reason why.

He would wake up at nightAnd he would have this fearOf the dark, of life, of lots of things,And he’d be glad to have me near.
