I'm doing the dishes and looking at the oversized soap bottle that was supposed to be for refill purposes but, after accidentally throwing away the smaller soap, now is the only dish soap in the house, and maybe because of the size I'm reading the label after dousing my sponge.

The label tells me, up top, "Made with recycled plastic: 100%."

The label tells me, 4/5ths of the way down, "Antibacterial: 99.9%*."

Kinda poetic, really.

You can only control your internal processes.

Once you put it out in the world, no matter how good your process is, you get rounded down from perfection and asterisked.

I flip the bottle over to find the asterisk definition. Almost clear - except I don't know what the numbers and letters mean at the end. "*Staph aureus, Salmonella enterica, and E. coli 0157:H7."

They have their internal and external processes, too. The soap may have their number most of the time, but - most ain't all.

Didn't expect a life philosophy reminder at the kitchen sink, but I'll take it.
