Look! We’re Still Going > See? I Was Right

Everybody wants to know what happens next. What the next move is. What they can do now to say, “See? I was right,” later. Kurt Vonnegut with the spoiler:

History is merely a list of surprises. It can only prepare us to be surprised yet again. If it’s going to make history, it has to be story-worthy. If it’s going to be story-worthy, it probably has a twist it in somewhere.

Our value, to the extent we can have skill, will come from our process. Our value, to the extent we get lucky (or unlucky), will come from luck.

A good process deals with what it understands from history and is prepared to receive good luck while weathering the bad. The twists are coming, it’s our job to survive them.

A more valuable phrase than, “See? I was right,” is “Look! We’re still going.”
