(No) Podcast Of The Week: Read A Book Instead, Thanks Apple Update

The default iPhone podcast app has long been usable but underwhelming. It’s also long been convenient. It’s just… right there I guess.

And so, if like me, you’ve experienced the latest update and all the clunky quirks that have come with it, you may have experienced a shift in your habits these past few weeks as episodes don’t show up, the app won’t load properly, or any other glorious WTF moments.

I’ve been resisting the move to Spotify for podcasts for a while, but this may finally break me. Apple still holds the largest listening base and really should get this right (for sake of monetization if nothing else), but right now I’m about ready to jump.

Do you use another player? If so, which one? Let me know. I’m in the market and open to suggestions and experimentation.

Meanwhile, my Audible app got some extra love. With no podcast to pitch, here are a few audiobooks I’ve really enjoyed so far this year:

Doom by Niall Ferguson (if you love beating up on experts and models, this is a treat).

The Coaching Habit by Michael Bungay Stanier (how did I only just discover this guy? Seriously, how?!)

The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green (I bought a signed physical copy and the audiobook. I love these essays that much. Plus, I had heard almost all of these as podcasts.)

BE 2.0 (Beyond Entrepreneurship) by Jim Collins and Bill Lazier (if you’re a fan of Collins’s work, get this book. He stitches everything together in a map which is one of my new favorite-ist things. I’m looking for a graphic for the office wall.)

Untamed by Glennon Doyle (this will easily be one of my books of the year, I admire and adore her writing.)

Besides podcast player tips, any podcasts or books to add to the list? Let me know!
