Please Kick Her Out (Chris Rock)

Chris Rock tells a story in his special, Selective Outrage, about making sure his daughter gets kicked out of school over some dumb-teenager stuff.

It’s OK to fail. It sucks. And it’s really hard to see people you love – fail.

But damn it, if that’s not how we learn…

Left foot, right foot.

Sometimes you step in dog crap, or gum, or whatever. Sometimes you watch someone you care about step in “it.”

So you better know how to clean it up and get back to putting the left foot in front of the right. You better be able to do it reasonably fast too. For yourself, or somebody else.

Nobody wants to track that stuff all over the house and car and closet.

Nobody ought to want to track it all over and nonchalantly expect someone else to clean it up for them either.

Which is what Rock did for his daughter. She stepped in it, and he made sure she learned what happened and how to clean it up. Herself. Well, with a little nudge to make sure the full lesson was learned.

No fun, but now she’s ready. And as of the recording of the special, it seems like she’s doing very, very well.

If you aren’t going to check out the full special, at least read the story here.
