Podcast Of The Week: Conan (And Friends) Read The Lost Hans And Frans Movie

In 1991, Conan O’Brien, Dana Carvey, Kevin Nealon, and Robert Smigel wrote a feature-length, Hans and Franz movie. Musical. Starring Arnold Schwarzaneggar.

It never got made.

Shocking. I know.

But in 2023, they got together and gave the script a read-through.

There are no better people in our lives than the people that make us laugh the hardest. This group of friends, gathered around these tables, talking about the insane ideas they had 32 years ago like they were 3 weeks ago, it’s beautiful on every level. Oh and it’s also hysterical.

Here’s the first one, there are 4 in total. They are SO good.

Podcasts I did (a new section for Saturday, because I guess I’m not just writing about podcasts anymore?!)

Check out the Excess Returns channel and specifically The Education of a Financial Planner playlist/feed. Like, subscribe, and all the things. New episodes come out on Mondays. Here’s a link to the playlist:

I want to highlight two particular episodes from recent weeks.

We recorded an interview with Peter Mladina, who is on my Mt. Rushmore of people who influenced my professional work. This gets wonky, so if you’re not a financial professional you’ve been warned, but we talk about his foundational work in applying the academic research behind planning for personal and professional goals in practice.

On this next one, we talked about annuities, why they’re championed by charlatans but not all bad in practice, and I of course related it all to Rick James’ masterpiece, “Give It To Me Baby.”

For good measure, here’s Rick James being extra Rick James in what my girlfriend Val calls “one of the funniest music videos of all time.”
