Podcast Of The Week: Retiring Philly Radio Legend Angelo Cataldi
Philly sports radio personality Angelo Cataldi is retiring from WIP at the age of 71.
He’s been hosting sports talk radio since before sports talk radio was a thing.
His Rhode Island accent combined with his upper-deck at the Vet attitude made him a local legend. Bryan Curtis had him on The Press Box to talk about his career.
Considering he virtually helped create the sports talk industry over a 40-year career, he’s got a lot to say about figuring out what works, building a career, and knowing when to step down.
Whether you’re a Philly person or not, there’s some wild stuff in here. Bryan Curtis summed up his work perfectly (Cataldi actually said it was the best way he ever heard someone put it) as,
“For the sports fan it’s a sports show that also includes some entertainment, and for the other people it’s an entertainment show that also happens to be about sports.” Seems so obvious, but someone had to crack it first.
