The metaphor in The Clash’s “Lost in the Supermarket” may not be aging perfectly, but it’s not lost yet. No doubt there’s a modern version of these lyrics out there today:

For the modern, genre-less kids, the song is also blending dance and disco on what was expected to be a punk record. The album came out in 1979, two years after punk broke, and musically they are making a statement as much as they are lyrically. For reference, give a listen to the self-titled first album, “The Clash” from 1977, and then put on “London Calling.” Side by side it’s clear why The Clash remain one of the most fascinating and progressive bands of all time.
