Sunday Music: A Shot In The Arm (Via Chicago)

Something about drinking a 312 on a spring day, sitting in a Chicago bar with somebody you love, and then having a Wilco song you haven’t thought of in over a decade start playing out of the jukebox.

The song is (pretty decisively) not romantic. I’m pretty sure it’s about the end of a herion-addled relationship. But it’s a killer song. No pun intended. It just works on multiple levels and is a musical/poetic kaleidoscope.

The looping piano. The ongoing tension and release. The escalating build into the end.

Plus, drumming on a bar singing “maybe all I need is a shot in the arm” never gets old.
