Sunday Music: Alice’s Restaraunt

It took just over an hour to get to and from Grandma’s on thanksgiving. On the way home, Dad would drive, Mom would co-pilot, and my brothers and I would ride in the dark back seats, staring out the windows, riding over the river and through the woods, listening to the radio.

Not every time, but enough times to make it a thing, we’d listen to “Alice’s Restaurant.” Start to finish. And a third of the trip would melt away.

I put this song on and I’m in the dark and half asleep. I’m with my family. It’s a pre-cell phone world. I’m kind of bored, kind of happy, and kind of at peace, all at once.
