Sunday Music: Folksinger Extraordinaire, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott
I’m not sure what made me pull this album up this week, but I’m glad I did. Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, in the great American folk tradition, was a human streaming service of sorts. He’d sit down with a guitar, the audience would press play, and then story after story would come out. He recorded Kerouac’s Last Dream in the early 1980s and then it got the re-release treatment in the late 1990s, adding tracks and remastering the audio. The latter version, in particular, is an extra special collection. His guitar playing, the song choices, and again, the stories – they will transport you. YouTube has the whole record available. Just press play.
