Sunday Music: Remembering Betty Davis

Talk about a short career with a massive impact. Betty Davis recorded 4 albums in about as many years. She played with the best musicians of the time. She married Miles Davis. She wrote. She produced. She killed.

And then, she retired. She packed her bags, moved to Pittsburgh, and a few weeks ago she passed away at the age of 77.

If you never have, give her catalog a listen. She was one of the greats. Until the 2000s, these albums were hard to find in full. Outside of samples, compilations, and maybe some not-so-legal downloads, she’s the stuff legends are made of.

Here’s two of many absolute classics, “If I’m In Luck I Might Get Picked Up,” and the I-only-know-this-from-the-sample, “Shoo-B-Doop and Cop Him.”
