(The Power Of) I’ll Have To Get Back To You

Sometimes someone says something so crazy to you, the best response is a simple, “I’ll have to get back to you.”

Next time your patience is being tried, or also if someone says they’ll “have to get back to you,”reflect with this:

If you can’t see the video, one government official is asking another, in what appears to be a serious question, if the Forestry Department could perhaps alter the orbits of the earth and moon to fight climate change.

The only responsible answer to that question is, “I’ll have to get back to you.”

In fairness, if you don’t know the answer, “I’ll have to get back to you” can be truthful too. Humble honesty can go a long way in building relationships ad well as for politely shushing trolls.

Talking in public is performing. Know the stage you’re on and how to play it. Even when they throw a tomato or say something crazy, it’s important.

And, if it’s warranted, you can always actually get back to them with a proper answer.
