Why That Meeting You Just Left Sucked

“Well, that meeting sucked.”

How many times have you said it? How many times has it been said about a meeting you hosted? Let’s change that.

Drama requires tension.

The reason good TV (and movies, and books, and music, and…) work is because you want to know what’s going to happen next.

There’s push. There’s pull. There are, perhaps, different voices, or different takes, and there are stakes that you care about.

And then there are meetings, presentations, conference calls, etc.

Where’s the drama? Where’s the tension? Where’s the thing that makes them… interesting?

If we want people to give a crap, we have to make things interesting. And if it’s going to be interesting, we’d better find some tension.
