"Be kind, rewind" was a little marketing and a lot of philosophy from my youth.

But there's no inverse. No corollary. You can't say "Be mean, unwind."

I've been bouncing this around because in financial markets, unwind almost always carries a negative connotation. Nothing good unwinds in markets-speak. Positions unwind. Trades unwind. Leverage unwinds, and everyone gets nervous when the un- comes out.

It's just a weird example of how words shift across domains.

Corporate strategy has the same quirks. It’s like how we're always bundling OR unbundling, and both get treated as progress.

Winding, unwinding, rewinding. It all just sounds cyclical to me, perpetually resolving and eternally unresolved.

I know the takeaway here is how all people want is a cute philosophy with a story and catch phrase to share so they sound smart to someone else.

But if all we're doing is sharing stories, I don't want to pay late fees.

Let’s get that in there, too.

Let it break. Let it unwind. Let it crash. Let it bust from the very blocks it was born on, into bankruptcy and tragedy, and funny memories about laminated wallet cards.

Then let something else rise in its wake.
