Design For Experience, Every Time

A Dennis Moseley-Williams-ism to live by

No matter who you are serving: design for experience.

Every time.

Ask:

How’s it feel?

Before, during, and after?

Why’s it feel that way?

Am I triggering the right feeling in the right person?*

How do I know?

When people have the right experience, they tell others about it.

They become advocates, and fans, and supporters.

And it’s as much about what they “got” as it is about how they “felt.”

*I didn’t really make it a secret that I invited Dennis Moseley-Williams and Josh Spector to talk to me to get some free advice. Now, I wasn’t going out of my way to directly ask them about me, but I was indirectly hoping to get some. They didn’t disappoint. This is what having a podcast is for, right?!

One of my biggest Just Press Record realizations was how important it is for me to design the guests (re: their!) experience. I’m focused on the audience secondarily. My priority is the way the two guests feel from silly opening intro to scribbled closing notes. So obvious in hindsight, but they made me see it, and that’s why they’re two of my favorite people.
