Paying Respects: MLB World Series Announcer Edition
the walk-off homer call-back was *perfect*
In 1988, Kirk Gibson stepped up to bat for The Dodgers in the World Series, and, “High fly ball into right field, she is…gone!” Vin Scully was the announcer. It was an ultra-rare, walk-off (re: game ending) homer resulting in a World Series victory.
In 2024, Freddie Freeman stepped up to bat for The Dodgers in the World Series, and, “Freeman hits the ball, right field, she is…gone!” Joe Davis was the announcer. It was another ultra-rare, walk-off homer, resulting in a World Series victory, and he played the hit perfectly.
The kind of at-bat that every kid dreams about.
The kind of call every announcer dreams about.
You study, you practice, you show up, you play, you create new memories as much as you remember the old ones.
It’s the kind of experience every human can appreciate.
Because we’re all storytelling creatures.
Over and over, forever and ever, and it can be such a beautiful thing.
