Sunday Music: Glitterer And Snail Mail, Benefit Show

Local punk shows are still the best shows

The fact that Wilkes-Barre can still pull 400+ people into a warehouse in the back corner of a parking lot on a Monday night to see a mix of local and national bands play with all proceeds going to charity… don’t tell 16 year old me, but I love this place.

If you didn’t get to come, you can give money to Ruth’s Place (our county’s 24/7 emergency shelter serving women experiencing homelessness) and/or Planned Parenthood.

Glitterer are shoegaze Fugazi with synths, and if you look close, that’s my head in front of the Marshall stack with my first in the air down in the thumbnail below (they were playing my favorite song, “1001”:

Snail Mail are Boy Genius with way better drums (is that a take? I don’t even know, but I LOVE their drummer even more after finally catching them live). He makes the band, but shoutout to the bassist too. Also, holy crap is Lindsey Jordan a good guitar player.

Shoutout to Feet First Productions for capturing the FULL show. Find and follow them in all the places too.

Bonus shoutout to the Russin family for being staples of the local scene here for so long, having 3 generations present at the show, and 2 of those generations on stage at the same time during the Giant’s Despair set. I queued this up to the 18:45 mark for you, if you want to warm your heart, just watch THIS:

My picture of Snail Mail - love those cheap light colors bleeding across!

My shot of Glitterer, “Shadows!” in your best John Prine voice…
