Sunday Music: Playlist Of Playlists (2016-Now)

One song at a time

Best part about finding a song you like is saving it.

To remember it.

To play it when you need whatever it makes you think or feel.

It’s an experience.

Man.

Sometimes it’s a Time Machine.

Other times it’s a daydream machine.

Sometimes it’s both.

I like to take those songs and make a playlist.

Or a mixtape, or CD, or - hey, the tech has evolved.

That’s part of it too.

Mediums and messages and all that.

But I like to catalogue what I like in a list for future reference.

I used to be really good at this, almost ripping them out monthly, but then, starting sometime into the pandemic times, I guess I started trailing off.

Life phased me in and out of the habit before.

Tapes on the bedroom stereo. CDs once there was a computer. Better CDs once a friend with Napster showed up. iTunes. iPod. Smartphones. Streaming. Then… I guess I just got bored? Or life got in the way.

So now I’m diving back in.

I took the songs I liked.

I took the playlists I liked.

And now, for about the last 10 years, I made a playlist of the playlists.

It’s, like, 39 hours long.

I’m currently playing it on shuffle and it’s a time machine. A daydream machine. Can’t help but reflect when it’s on.

You too?

Send me your lists of lists.
