The VCR Framework Every Creator Can Use: Matt Ackermann Returns To JUST PRESS RECORD
Ackety ack, he talked back!
What do you do when you want to get an idea out into the world - like, a good idea, maybe even a great one, and the kind of idea that could make you, a nobody, into a somebody - but, you’re just a nobody so who cares and why try?
Matt Ackermann is a brand strategist for a reason. Steal his VCR framework. Even if you’re not a nobody.
Matt told me, on his triumphant return to JUST PRESS RECORD (out now on Cultish Creative YouTube and wherever you get your podcasts) that everyone - EVERYONE - has some combination of Vision, Capability, and Reach.
Vision is a line of sight to a future you can see that others can’t yet.
Capability is the know how to do what needs to be done to create something others can’t yet make.
Reach is the idea of either delegating tasks to people in your network or tapping strangers you’re some Kevin Bacon amount away from for help because you know they can help.
No matter what you’re trying to do, VCR is where you have to start.
You have one of these things. At least. Maybe more.
And, if you know what you have, you can figure out what you don’t have, and then get help.
I know how to make these YouTube shows, or at least I’ve got the means of delegating the hard bits to my partner Jack Forehand, even if I’m not positive exactly where they’re going.
But then I talk to somebody like Josh Spector and he fills in some of that vision with ideas for what it could become. The networking powerhouse at its core, even if the audience is small. The product ideas in the wings, even if they still need to be developed.
I had capability and some reach, I found some vision.
Think about anything you’re good at.
Apply Ackermann’s VCR.
Where can you go with it now?
We all start with an idea, or an action, or even a connection we know is special.
If we plug it into the VCR framework, we can figure out how to take it from good to great.
What’s your strongest VCR component, and how can I help with the others? You’re part of this email list for a reason. Just press reply (or find me here).
All this and so much more on Just Press Record, out now!
