I said I’d get back on this in 2026 and I’m coming out the gate strong. Here it is on Apple Music and Spotify.

NEW 2026 JANUARY MIX-TAPE LINER NOTES

  1. Cool Schmool | Bratmobile: I mean, I got to interview Allison Wolfe this month so, everything (including my hair) is mid-90s again. I love the hopscotch riot grrrl intro.

  2. PUNK ROCKY | A$AP Rocky: He’s got so much style. More nerds, everywhere in everything.

  3. Ha Ha Ha Armageddon | The Julie Ruin: The Bikini Kill to La Tigre bridge was incredible.

  4. Elitist G.O.A.T. | Sleaford Mods, Albion Harding: Aggro but not aggro, and raw but subtle. Sleaford Mods must be a good hang.

  5. Observer | Gary Numan: Here in our car, we go bananas when “Observer” comes on.

  6. Punk Rock Loser | Viagra Boys: Honestly, this is just for the transition - it popped into my head and told me how we were getting from synths to smyrks to IDK and Pusha T, and who was I to argue with that?

  7. Hot Bars | Felt: Probably my favorite Murs and Slug collaboration track since it came out. The punk kid braggadocio is the best feeling. Who steals rockstars girlfriends?! Murs and Slug do.

  8. LIFE 4 A LIFE | IDK, Pusha T: I still need to write my post on why I love cowboy novels and Pusha T songs for the same reasons.

  9. Bang Bien | Nightmares On Wax, Yasiin Bey, Mos Def: Caught this on a Skratch Bastid mix and I really need to catch up on Nightmares on Wax. This whole record is great.

  10. The Stars Above | The Bandulus: old souls doing old soul.

  11. With A Girl Like You | The Troggs: there’s that commercial out now that plays this and I get happy every single time I hear it.

  12. Summer In The City | The Damned: They did a great covers album, apparently. Somebody book them for your wedding or something and invite me.

  13. Bug | Remember Sports: I am so excited there’s a new Remember Sports I can’t even tell you. They are raw poetic anxiety in the best way.

  14. Anywhere | Ratboys: casually opening a song by singing“ooo hooo I know it’s bad but I can’t help my panic attack” is a move that will capture my attention for at least 3 minutes and 2 seconds.

  15. Gasoline | Buck Meek: I love a song that sounds like it’s fast and slow and loud and quiet all at the same time like some sort of magic trick.

  16. Townies | Wednesday: I want this to song to come on the jukebox every time we walk into our local bar/pizza joint. Good ol’ townies.

  17. Pickup Truck | Pokey LaFarge: Speaking of townie energy… Pokey’s back, baby. This is filling a weird solo Reverend Horton Heat sized hole in my heart somehow.

  18. Site Unseen (feat. Waxahatchee) | Courtney Barnett, Waxahatchee: Aussie and American nowheresville vibes doing their thing together. Indie rock is having another moment I think.

  19. Cherry Hard Candy | Snocaps, Waxahatchee, Allison Crutchfield: The Allison Crutchfield takeover section is upon this playlist for a minute, accept it.

  20. Ready to Let You Down | JOSEPH: You hear the connection to the A$AP Rocky non-riff riffage here too, right? Listen to those guitars in the opening, they are so The Cure. Plus, their voices are deliberately coming after the last 2 tracks.

  21. Somewhere | Black Marble: The synths and drums help with the transition. This song came on when we were out to breakfast and my wife called it out and I’ve since fallen in love with it. I also now associate it with a pastrami and egg sandwich but, I don’t mind.

  22. Teary Eyes (feat. Burna Boy) | YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Burna Boy: I would take a duet album of these two, just saying. So melancholy in the best ways.

  23. First Light | E L U C I D, Sebb Bash: are you a sucker for bass harmonics and atmospheric rap? Then this is for you, too.

  24. BODY BAG BENNY | Westside Gunn, Stove God Cooks, Benny The Butcher: all caps and stuck in my head all day since I’ve heard it. “He do it one armmmm in the Goyard” - yes.

  25. Rain Dance | Roc Marciano, Fred Holden: There’s a bunch of tracks on this record that make me happy, but the vibes sample here is magic. Plus, floppy disk references!

  26. Keys and P's (Nicholas Craven Mix)| Kay Bandz, Boldy James: Boldy James needed to show up on more mixes now that I’m back on this. This remix version is THE version to me.

  27. Flo Jackson | Flo Milli: So, I can’t and won’t singalong to this for all the reasons, but damn is this catchy. She’s so punk it’s great.

  28. Pretty Flacko | A$AP Rocky: Had to take it back and end it here. “I be that pretty m***********” is - respect.
