(the alchemy of the Alchemist)

Be nice to people on the way up.

And, if/when you get a little closer to the top, be nice to the people behind you too.

Go out of your way for it.

They might not be following in your footsteps, but if they are?

Your noticing will mean the world to them.

For something so easy to say, it’s shocking how few people do it.

Enter the music super-producer (at this point), the Alchemist.

I’ve long loved his work and felt like I liked him from his appearances on Action Bronson’s shows, in interviews, etc., but when he said this in a Rolling Stone feature, my respect went through the roof:

When something that reaches my radar is genuine, I definitely am the type that’ll reach out. I love discovering new artists, or giving somebody who’s a new producer [props like] “Yo, I see you. Keep going crazy.” There’s a producer, Child Actor, who’s really dope that was on my radar. I reached out to him. I didn’t wait for him to hit me like, “Yo, you’re dope. I mess with you.” I’ve done that to a lot of guys because I know what that does, and what that would’ve done for me at the time. And it’s genuine, too, like these are people I get inspiration from.

And because it makes it almost even better, here’s Child Actor resharing the quote online with the comment, “Can confirm this is very motivating! Salute to Alchemist for doing this kind of thing regularly.”

Be nice on the way up.

Be nice to others on their way up.

It’s not hard.

ps. Slug from Atmosphere’s lesson on never having a nemesis comes to mind here too. Another great story. I bet Alchemist has a ton of these too.
