Cultish Creative Weekly Recap (11/23/2024)
my 2 personal Seth Godin's, 2 macro mavens, and 20ish other opinions and takes
Josh Spector and Dennis Moseley-Williams came on Just Press Record this week. I think of them as my personal Seth Godin’s, and if you’re a creator of any sort, you probably need to hear them talk as badly as I needed to. We went deep and wide on communicating, experiences, and transformation, it was a ball to introduce them to each other for the first time. Here’s the YouTube link or search Just Press Record wherever you get your podcasts:
In case you missed it, I also had a fascinating conversation over on Excess Returns talking “state of the world” stuff with Ben Hunt and Grant Williams. I wrote about it too, which if you don’t know them, do read this post first. I’ll take the optimism from wherever I can get it. Let me also give a hard plug for the last 20 minutes or so of this one if you’re short on time:
Jack and I went through a list of “the most controversial takes” from interviews this year on Excess Returns. Spoiler: takes are just takes, we mostly temper them, but not without making references to everything from Little Rascals to My Fair Lady. The upshot is “hot-takes” stretch your brain, and I know this episode handily stretched mine:
Personal Archive entries you might have missed:
Ahmad Jamal is the best. That’s it. Just, some of the greatest piano music ever. Here’s my post focusing on “Poinciana.”
Everybody knows some numbers are fudged. But what if there’s one fudgiest number of them all, and what if that number is 50,000? This is pretty wild: The Goldilocks Number.
I’m reconsidering my influences, with extra special gratitude to Jason Buck and Dennis Moseley Williams.
A key signal I need to write an entry in the Personal Archive is I realize there’s a phrase I say a lot that I’ve not yet written about. “There’s no such thing as information overload, only filter failure” is one of those statements. Archival entry complete.
